Houston’s Catastrophic Theatre and the University of Houston School of Theatre and Dance joining forces to produce the rock opera Bluefinger: The Fall and Rise of Herman Brood.

Bluefinger thrives on songs and abstractions from Black Francis’ (AKA: Frank Black’s) 2007 album of the same name. The concept album marked Black’s first time using his Pixies moniker in 15 years and paid tribute to Dutch rocker Herman Brood.

Pixies biographer Josh Frank pitched the idea and Jason Nodler adapted it for the stage.

Texan musicians Matt Kelly and Michael Haaga star as Brood and Black, respectively.

Bluefinger includes more than 20 Black and Brood songs.

Performances start Nov. 12 and run through Dec. 18 at DiverseWorks Artspace in Houston.
